No journey to Historic Silverton is complete without a visit to the Mundi Mundi Lookout. Only a few minutes’ drive from Silverton, from an amazing viewpoint on top of the Barrier Ranges, you look out across Mundi Mundi Station which stretches across the border into South Australia. From here, you have the unique opportunity to see the curvature of the earth and witness amazing sunsets, dust storms, thunder storms and just about anything else Mother Nature can throw at us. On a perfectly ordinary day, the view is simply stunning.
Those Mad Max 2 fans amongst you will recognise the road leading down from the lookout as a scene from the movie, celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2021 (we won’t give it away in case you still haven’t seen it).
Anyway, bring your camera as you never know what you might see from up here. You might even see a majestic Wedge tail eagle souring on the thermals above you or a few kangaroos in the hills. Why not pack some cheese, nibbles and drinks and settle in to watch the most amazing sunsets anywhere.
